When I paint, I let my inner child fill up the canvas with as many marks and colors as she wants. It’s like going into a trance, avoiding critique or too much consideration of composition or color theory or outright clashing—following my mantra of “pleasure over perfection” and feeling everything that comes up in the process. I use the next layers to bring intention to the beautiful mess I made before, covering up what doesn’t work and highlighting what does, as if I’m creating new white canvas space for more play and pleasure (all while preserving the history of what was felt and expressed in the layers underneath).
This is a 30x30 inch original acrylic painting on archival quality, spline stretched canvas.
