“Truths and roses have thorns about them.” ― Henry David Thoreau
It's not easy, this honesty thing. Telling the truth is a revolutionary act, and most revolutions are messy, tumultuous, and rarely victimless. Telling the truth, acting on the clear, insistent voice inside of each of us—that voice that wants more, or wants less, or wants different, or is fed up—requires so much courage. It's thorny because it means saying "no" or "please" or "stop" or "I need" to people who may be accustomed to our easy nature, who we're worried might only love us as long as the answer we give is the answer they want to hear. But it's worth it, my friend. It's so worth it. While it may be thorny sometimes, it's the closest thing I have found to a pathway to the lives we want to live.
